How Does a Motherboard Break?

Motherboards in computers break every so often, even if they are not physically touched or broken on purpose. From personal experience the main reason for motherboard break down is due to dust, dirt and generally unloved computers.

Failing capacitor can also make a motherboard choose to break; the whole strain on the system can be too much.

The favorite and technical reason, which I think is best although it’s never happened to me, is because of too much power in the system. This can be caused by bad voltage or a surge of electricity from the mains.

The motherboard never can really over heat as some say, the components in a computer that are more likely to overheat is the processor or the video card, so it’s likely they would break first.

Once any of the above has happened to a motherboard in a computer it will need to be replaced. This is best done by a technician who knows what he’s doing and knows what components are compatible. While replacing the motherboard there is no reason why you should lose information stored on your computer, as the information is stored on your hard drive. With this in mind if you send you computer back to the manufactures it is likely they might wipe the hard drive. Check this out before you send your computer off, and the best idea in any situation is to create a backup of your computer regularly so you will never loose information.

When the motherboard has been replace and your computer is working again it is best to take better care of it. Clean it! Make sure it gets air! No kicking or hitting the computer will make it work any faster or get rid of any problems.
