Computers that boot in seconds – No more Bios start up!

As we all know computers can be very frustrating when they take so long to boot up, and after 25 years of booting up using bios there is now going to be an upgrade called UEFI which will be introduced to computers in 2011.

UEFI stands for Unified Extensible Firmware Interface and is seen to be a much more flexible design for today’s technology.

The BIOS of a PC software is built into the PC, and is the first code run by a PC when powered on. The primary function of the BIOS is to load and start an operating sysrem. When the PC starts up, the first job for the BIOS is to initialize and identify system devices such as the video display card, keyboard and mouse, hard disk, CD/DVD drive and other hardware. The BIOS then locates software held on a peripheral device, such as a hard disk or a CD, and loads and executes that software, giving it control of the PC.

UEFI frees any computer from being based around the blueprint and specifications of the original PCs. For instance, it does not specify that a keyboard will only connect via  a specific port.

Under UEFI, it will be much easier for that input to come a soft keyboard, gestures on a touchscreen or any future input device.

Some administrators have already seen the benefits from the new UEFI system, a normal BIOS system takes 25-30 seconds to boot before you see the first sign of life on the PC, but with this new technology it will start up in a matter of seconds.

So we can wait with excitement for 2011 to come to be able to go out and buy our PC with the new UEFI system.
